Hygienic and robust mechanical seals type MG
A mechanical seal, also known as a stuffing box, ensures that liquids and gases are kept in place in rotating equipment such as pumps, mixers and agitators. It forms a tight barrier between the rotating shaft and the pump house and prevents the medium from leaking into the environment. In hygienic applications, the seal protects both the end product and your system components from contamination.
We offer a wide range of mechanical seals that fit equipment from a wide range of recognised manufacturers in the process industry. These include mechanical seals type MG, which combine flexibility, durability and high hygiene standards. They are used primarily in the food, pharmaceutical and process industries, where the requirements for tightness and operational reliability are high.
If you would like a more detailed explanation of how mechanical seals work and how they are used, watch this video, where we go through the components step by step.
High hygiene and materials you can rely on
When you choose mechanical seal type MG, you get a solution that is designed to withstand the challenges you face in demanding production environments. The seals are built around a rubber bellows and a spring, which are encased in stainless steel. This protects the spring from the process medium and ensures an effective and stable seal.
You can choose the seal ring in carbon or silicon carbide and the seat in either ceramic or silicon carbide. The rubber bellows are available in EPDM, NBR or Viton, depending on the media and temperatures involved in your process. The entire construction is designed to function smoothly during CIP cleaning and other intensive hygiene requirements.
Three variants for different needs
We offer three models in the MG series of mechanical seals, and we are happy to advise you on which one is best suited to your equipment and process.
- MG 1 is a directional rubber bellows seal that provides stable sealing in a known direction of rotation. It can be used with both O-ring and block seats and offers good flexibility in the choice of materials.
- MG 12 has the same design as MG 1 but is designed to fit DIN working lengths and DIN seat dimensions. It is also directional and offers the same combination options as MG 1.
- MG 13 is non-directional and offers greater freedom of installation, regardless of the direction of shaft rotation. It is suitable for applications where the direction of rotation varies or where simple installation is a priority. Like the other models, MG 13 can be combined with both O-ring and block seats.
All three models are based on the same basic construction and choice of materials, ensuring easy integration into existing equipment and consistent documentation across the series.
Complete solution with accessories and documentation
When upgrading or replacing a mechanical seal type MG, it is rarely enough to simply replace the seal itself. To ensure an optimal and long-lasting solution, we recommend that you also consider the associated accessories. For example, it may be necessary to choose O-rings in alternative materials that match the chemical properties or temperature conditions of the process medium.
In many applications, it is not only operational reliability that counts, but also hygiene and traceability requirements. We supply mechanical seals type MG in materials that comply with FDA regulations. This ensures that they are approved for use in food contact applications.
We are happy to provide both advice and technical support to ensure you get a solution that meets your specific requirements – both technically and in terms of documentation. Frequently asked questions
What are the differences between MG 1, MG 12 and MG 13?
MG 1 and MG 12 are directional, while MG 13 is non-directional. MG 12 is also adapted to DIN working lengths and DIN seat dimensions.
What materials can I choose for mechanical seals type MG?
You can choose a carbon or silicon carbide seal ring, a ceramic or silicon carbide seat, and an EPDM, NBR or Viton rubber bellows. The choice depends on the medium and temperature in your process.
Can the seals be used for both O-ring and block seats?
Yes, all models in the MG mechanical seal series can be used with both O-ring and block seats. This makes replacement and adaptation easy and flexible.
Which industries typically use mechanical seals MG type?
MG type mechanical seals are used in water supply, wastewater treatment plants, and process and chemical plants, among other places. They are popular in environments where there are high demands on operational reliability, durability, and media resistance.
