Custom hoses for the process industry: El-traced, double-jacketed and grounded
When a standard hose cannot cope with the medium, the temperature or the safety requirements, we have the solution for you. We offer custom hoses for applications where liquid, viscous or highly flammable media need to be transported under controlled conditions. We configure each individual solution according to the medium, pressure, temperature and applicable approvals.
The choice between the three types depends primarily on what the medium will be exposed to: does it need to be kept warm, does the temperature need to be precisely regulated during transport, or does the hose need to prevent static electricity when handling highly flammable media?
El-traced hose for the heated transport of viscous media
An el-traced hose, also known as a heated hose or electrically heated hose, maintains the medium at a constant, predetermined temperature all the way from A to B. It is constructed around a Teflon core with a built-in heating cable and a washable, FDA-approved outer jacket, and certain models can be heated to up to 250°C.
The heated hose is the right choice when the medium needs to remain liquid during production and packaging. Typical applications include the transport of chocolate, honey, syrup, sauces and glue. It's frequently used as a glue hose, where the glue needs to be kept warm when sealing cardboard boxes and other packaging.
Double-jacket hose for heated or cooled transport using water or steam
The double-jacket hose, consists of an inner hose that transports the product, enclosed within an outer jacket. A medium, typically water or steam, circulates through the jacket, either heating or cooling the product as it passes through.
The construction is the ideal solution when the process requires precise temperature control of temperature-sensitive media, such as chemicals that need to be kept stable, or products that must neither solidify nor overheat. The double-jacket solution is ideal if you already use water or steam for temperature control in your pipework systems.
Grounded hose for the safe transport of highly flammable media
A grounded hose is, in practice, an antistatic or electrically conductive hose that dissipates static electricity, thereby preventing build-up and sparking. This makes it indispensable wherever flammable or explosive media are handled: chemical plants, powder and dust production, and the transport of flammable liquids and solvents.
The hose is fitted with a conductor that grounds the construction, ensuring that any charge is safely dissipated. We can earth most of our hose types so that any static electricity is safely dissipated.
| Hose type | Function | Temperature tolerance | Area of application |
|---|---|---|---|
| El-traced hose | Constant heating of the medium | Up to 250°C | Food industry, packaging |
| Double-jacket hose | Heating or cooling via water/steam | Depends on hose type | Temperature-sensitive media, chemicals and pharmaceuticals |
| Grounded hose | Dissipation of static electricity | Depends on hose type | Flammable and explosive media, chemicals and pharmaceuticals |
How to choose the right specialised hose
When specifying a custom hose, there are four factors that are crucial to ensuring the solution remains reliable in operation:
- Pressure and vacuum: The hose must be able to withstand the required working pressure without failure. If there is vacuum in the hose, it must also withstand negative pressure. This is achieved with a built-in steel spiral.
- Temperature. Check that the hose can handle the temperatures required by the medium, both during storage and transport.
- Approvals. Choose a hose that complies with current legislation and standards, particularly where there is contact with foodstuffs (FDA) or when handling hazardous substances in potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Heating principle: El-traced or double-jacket? Electric tracing is usually straightforward to install in specific plants, whilst the double-jacket solution is ideal if you already have water or steam available for temperature control.
Accessories to consider: hose guards
In addition to the hose itself, the right accessories can extend its service life and enhance safety in production. In the process industry, hoses are exposed daily to wear, cuts, corrosion and mechanical stress, particularly at couplings and joints, where the hose is most vulnerable. A hose guard acts as a physical barrier precisely at these points, reducing the risk of damage, downtime and unexpected replacements.
Among our range of hose guards, you’ll find a rubber hose guard, a spiral hose guard and a two-piece version, which can be fitted to the hose even after it has been installed.

We’re happy to help you
As a B2B supplier with our own assembly workshop and certified metalworkers, we don’t simply pick a hose off the shelf. We advise on material selection and fit the correct fittings and couplings so that the hose fits into your existing system. This applies whether you manufacture products for the food or pharmaceutical industries.

Frequently asked questions
What media can an el-traced hose transport?
An el-traced hose transports media that need to be kept at a specific temperature. It is recommended, amongst other things, for liquid media such as sauces, chocolate and glue, which need to be kept warm during production and packaging.
What is the difference between an el-traced hose and a double-jacket hose?
An el-traced hose is heated electrically via a built-in heating cable and keeps the medium warm. A double-jacket hose regulates the temperature by circulating water or steam in an outer jacket and can both heat and cool. El-traced hoses are typically chosen for specific installations, whilst the double-jacket hose is suitable where water or steam is already available.
What is a grounded (antistatic) hose, and how does it protect against static electricity?
A grounded hose is an antistatic, electrically conductive hose with a built-in conductor that dissipates static electricity, thereby preventing sparking. This makes it suitable for handling flammable liquids, powders or solvents where static electricity poses a risk.
How do pressure and temperature affect the hose’s service life?
A hose’s service life is reduced if it is exposed to pressures or temperatures exceeding its design limits. It's therefore essential to select a custom hose that is specified for the specific pressure and temperature requirements of your application.
Can you supply custom hoses in specific dimensions and lengths?
Yes. We assemble each hose to suit the specific application and can customise the dimensions, length, end fittings and couplings so that the hose fits into your system. If you have specific requirements, we will base our work on your drawing or specification.
